And so it is here, I give you Sidhartha by Herman Hesse, 1931. There is poetry, the kind you hear when standing next to a clear running stream; a deep one.

Since I have not blogged in nearly two weeks I do owe something special. And I am coming through with this post. Sometimes words kick, and sometimes they kick themselves right off the page.

Actually I wasn't looking, not at first, but have you ever been in a place where you notice something, and as you catch a glimpse of the evidence, and you start looking more, you find what you had a sense of is ridiculously mockingly evident. In my mission to find poetry in everyday things, outside literary mags, and professional publishing it only took a trip to the local casino to find assonance and alliteration aplenty. Slot machine game names I found:
Greenback Attack Moolah Rouge Penny Frenzy Juicy Loot Cable Car Cash Bank Buster Cash Reaction Pharaoh's Fortune-Big Ben-Lucky Lemmings-Pelican Pete-King Quest-Fairy's Fortune-Diamonds Devils Deluxe-Wicked WinningII-Dragon Dynasty-Twin Tigers-Sky Spirits-Fireball Frenzy-Stars & Bars-Ruby Ring-Davinchi Diamonds- Treasures of Troy- Lil Lady-Blue Moon-Brazilian Beauty-Tiki Torch--Mardi Gras Madness-Double Diamonds-Life of Luxury-Hee Haw-Mytical Mermaid-Thai Treasures-Eqyptian Eyes-Witches Riches-Triple Double Dollars-Triple Double Diamonds-Lucky Luigi's Pizzeria-Hot Hot Super Jackpot-Kitty Glitter-Spinning Streak-Jumpin Jalapenos So poetry lives in the slot machine casino, but ask most people on their way out the door about the name of their favorite game; and they will tell you whatever the name on the machine, poetic justice is still in the house's favor. |
